Will Smith has teamed up with Big Sean, not for a new Matrix film as fans speculated, but for a fresh musical venture.

The Matrix curiosity was sparked when Will Smith uploaded a tantalizing video to Instagram, teasing his past brush with the Wachowski’s 1999 sci-fi epic. He declined the role of Neo back then, opting for something else. However, Smith has now reimagined the iconic red and blue pill scene from the film for another purpose.

Smith and Big Sean have partnered for a new single titled “Beautiful Scars.” In the stylish teaser trailer, Sean steps into the shoes of Morpheus, originally portrayed by Laurence Fishburne, while Smith plays Neo. Instead of navigating a simulated reality, this duo is orchestrating a music release.

The teaser expertly captures the nostalgic essence of The Matrix. Big Sean’s character wittily remarks on Smith’s career, “Look, you’ve made some awesome career choices your whole life. There’s only one you truly regret. Well, maybe two, but we’re not gonna focus on that one,” poking fun at the infamous Oscar incident with Chris Rock.

The short clip crescendoes with Sean telling Smith he’s faced with two choices in pill form: “Blue pill, everything remains the same, and you get to move on with your life. Red pill, you get to go back and star in that movie that got away. The choice is yours.” In a playful twist, Smith astonishingly swallows both pills, leaving viewers chuckling and curious about what happens next.

Though the music video for ‘Beautiful Scars’ is anticipated to visually nod to The Matrix motifs, there’s little evidence suggesting direct involvement from the original film’s creators. Nevertheless, the teaser succeeds in drawing attention and raising questions.

As insiders reported to The Hollywood Reporter, this teaser isn’t linked to any future Matrix film endeavors featuring Smith. Meanwhile, rumors swirled speculating its connection to an upcoming Super Bowl commercial, adding to the intrigue.

While Will Smith won’t be stepping into a Matrix film, his collaboration with Big Sean for “Beautiful Scars” has certainly stirred excitement and curiosity.
