Guess what? Chance The Rapper’s voice is now booming across all Chicago Transit Authority stations. This Grammy winner just can’t stop showing love for his hometown.
At 31, this artist, who first got famous through his independent streaming-only releases, is now the voice behind CTA announcements for riders all across the city.
Working with the transit agency is a no-brainer for Chance, given his strong ties to Chicago and passion for public service.
“This is a unique partnership between two Chicago icons – CTA and Chance – that allows us to celebrate the special meaning they both have for our great city,” CTA Acting President Nora Leerhsen said.
Remember his game-changing album STAR LINE, released in August 2025? Well, this announcement is the latest big news since then. That album was his first major project since 2019’s The Big Day.
Like always, Chance maintained artistic control over this album while addressing social issues.
“I think this partnership is so important because I grew up taking the Red Line train from 79th,” Chance the Rapper said. “All of the train lines create a pathway to connection and an opportunity for people to build community, and that’s what STAR LINE is about. It’s about us forming together to fight anything that’s going against us. This is an important time in the city for people to stand up, be brave and protective of each other.”
Chance’s collaboration with CTA goes beyond just announcements. He’s even appeared on the transit authority’s official podcast. But the twist is, this partnership shows his ongoing investment in Chicago’s infrastructure and community.
Chance’s hands-on approach to civic engagement always focuses on creating real change in the community.
Through his nonprofit, SocialWorks, he’s given over $5.1 million to 51 Chicago schools since 2017.
His initial $1 million donation to Chicago Public Schools in March 2017 showed his commitment to local education. Most recently, SocialWorks gave $100,000 grants to five CPS high schools in August 2025 for career-focused programs.
Now, Chance’s voice will guide Chicago residents on their daily commutes, adding a unique touch to the city’s transportation.
This trend of celebs teaming up with public transportation systems isn’t new. Cardi B partnered with New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority in September 2025 to record safety announcements for NYC subway riders.
Cardi B’s messages like “Ride safe, keep it cute, and keep it moving” reminded riders about fare payment, subway surfing prevention, and general transit courtesy.
