Master P just made history by stepping into his new role as President of Basketball Operations at the University of New Orleans.

Announced at a press conference on February 26, Master P, known for his successful career in the music industry and love for basketball, shared his excitement and vision for the University of New Orleans basketball program. He emphasized the pride he felt growing up in New Orleans and looking up to the university’s basketball team as one of the best in the country.

Master P expressed his gratitude, stating how blessed he is to have this opportunity to rebuild the basketball program, promising to revitalize the team and foster a sense of family and community. “This is our culture, this is our team, and this is our family. We want to give that family love out here to the city to bring the people back where it should be at,” he declared.

However, Master P is stepping into a challenging environment, as four players from the team have recently been suspended amid investigations into possible violations regarding sports gambling. Despite these hurdles, Master P’s commitment to turning things around is palpable.

Master P’s involvement with basketball isn’t new. In 1999, he played in the Charlotte Hornets’ training camp. Last year, he was eager to coach the New Orleans Pelicans, even suggesting to TMZ that he’d help lead the team to victory.

“Y’all need to put me on the coaching staff next year [and] we gonna win the whole thing,” he confidently stated. Meanwhile, his son, Mercy Miller, also carries the basketball legacy forward. Mercy made headlines in 2023 by setting a record at Notre Dame High School with a 68-point game and is now playing for the University of Houston.

Another of P’s sons, Hercy Miller, contributes to the sports world by playing for the Southern Utah University Thunderbirds. Although Hercy’s career faced a potential setback with allegations of theft alongside teammates, the charges were fortunately dropped.

Master P’s new role signifies not just a personal achievement but a promising future for the University of New Orleans basketball program. With his passion and dedication, there’s hope for a revival and a stronger sense of community through sports.
