Rapsody and Kendrick Lamar share a deep connection, despite their infrequent interactions. Recently, K. Dot surprised everyone by reaching out to commend her latest album, Please Don’t Cry.

While attending the Jazz Cafe Festival in London, Rapsody opened up about her bond with the Compton rapper. She reminisced about being at his memorable Juneteenth Pop Out show and how they reconnected afterward.

“I spoke to him maybe a week after the concert and a week before,” she mentioned. Despite not having chatted with Lamar for over a year, his spontaneous text about her album came as a delightful surprise.

“Album is crazyyy!” he expressed, appreciating her work. This unexpected gesture was a testament to their relationship, characterized by sporadic but meaningful interactions.

Rapsody is thankful for his support. “He’s a beautiful human being — raw, authentic, real, loving. I’m proud of everything he’s doing. He’s a great leader,” she shared.


She also highlighted how Lamar remains keenly aware of his surroundings. “He stays tapped in to everything. He listens and watches, even though he might seem quiet,” she stated, emphasizing his genuine nature.

Please Don’t Cry, released in May, features prominent artists like Lil Wayne and Erykah Badu across 22 tracks. It’s a follow-up to her 2019 album Eve, which honored her inspirations such as Lauryn Hill and Nina Simone.

Additionally, while discussing her involvement in Lamar’s renowned album To Pimp a Butterfly, Rapsody reflected on her philosophy towards artistic disagreements. She admires the spirit and competitiveness of the music industry.
