Fans were buzzing with the news that rapper Fetty Wap was released from prison. However, this turned out to be false.
In a swift move, Fetty Wap took to social media, specifically his Instagram Story, to calm the swirling rumors. He reposted a message from someone who seems to be a relative, stating, ‘He’s not out yet. @fettywap1738 free you brother I love you!’
Fetty’s current release date stands at March 13, 2027, according to the Bureau of Prisons website. This did not stop fans from speculating on an early release, which the New Jersey artist had to refute himself.
His legal troubles began back in October 2021, with an arrest at Citi Field, right before a performance at the Rolling Loud Festival in New York. The charges were severe, involving federal drug accusations tied to a Long Island drug ring.
Pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute over 500 grams of cocaine, Fetty was sentenced to six years. Prosecutors asserted he used his fame to glamorize the drug trade, despite earning millions from his music career.
Reflecting on his situation in a 2023 interview with XXL, Fetty expressed regret over not taking his career seriously. ‘I take accountability for everything I did. I don’t really be blaming nobody for nothing,’ he admitted, reflecting on choices that led to his incarceration.
Despite his own challenges, Fetty acknowledged his relative fortune compared to others in prison with him. Surrounded by individuals facing much longer sentences, he found solace and encouragement among them.
Discussions with fellow inmates made him realize the importance of focussing on his music and making the most of his opportunities once he’s free.
Fetty Wap remains behind bars, debunking any early release rumors. His focus is now on personal growth and preparing for his eventual return to the music scene.
