In a surprise move, Drake shared an unreleased track from his album ‘Some Sexy Songs 4 U’ featuring an artist he lauds as his ‘GOAT.’ This track, dropped on his secret Instagram account @plottttwistttttt, didn’t make the final cut due to sample clearance hurdles.
Though Drake hasn’t disclosed the identity of the artist, it turns out to be a solo performance by New Orleans’ very own bounce artist Heaven. On her Instagram, she implied that this track might pop up in a deluxe version of Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR’s collaborative album.
Released on Valentine’s Day, ‘Some Sexy Songs 4 U’ flaunts several emerging artists, including Chino Pacas from Mexico, Houston’s Pim, and Yebba, who was part of ‘Certified Lover Boy.’ The album made waves on streaming platforms, amassing 56.6 million streams on Spotify on its debut day. This achievement places it second only to The Weeknd’s ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’ in terms of debut streams this year.
Over at Apple Music, Drake smashed previous records for single-day streams of an R&B album. With 92.4 million Spotify streams in a single day, Drake momentarily outshone his rival Kendrick Lamar in the realm of streaming supremacy this year.
Kanye West, despite his tumultuous relationship with Drake, acknowledged the brilliance of the track ‘Gimme a Hug,’ praising it as ‘incredible.’ Meanwhile, Young Thug, a steadfast ally of Drake’s, lauded the album’s triumphant performance and tweeted his admiration: ‘That boy back number one.’
It seems Drake’s knack for surprises and chart-topping success keeps his fans and rivals talking.
