Diddy gears up for his trial with a fresh legal strategy.
- He’s enlisted Brian Steel, known for freeing Young Thug.
- Steel joins just weeks before Diddy’s trial begins.
- Jury selection is scheduled to kick off on May 5.
- Diddy explores adding a Black female attorney to his team.
In a move that’s turning heads, Diddy has brought Brian Steel, Young Thug’s lawyer, onto his legal team. Steel is renowned for securing Young Thug’s freedom in a high-profile case, and now, he’s set to defend Diddy. With his trial looming, this addition could be a game-changer.
Jury selection is slated to start on May 5, while opening arguments are scheduled for May 12. Amidst these preparations, Diddy’s team also seeks to hire a Black female attorney, emphasizing that this wouldn’t be just a strategic move for appearance’s sake, but a genuine effort to strengthen the defense.
Marc Agnifilo and Teny Geragos, both white attorneys, currently represent Diddy. Their strategy highlights concerns about systemic biases, framing the case as another attempt to target a wealthy Black man. Meanwhile, Brian Steel’s reputation in the courtroom has already added a notable edge to Diddy’s defense.
Before opting for Steel, Diddy had considered Joe Tacopina, the lawyer who successfully defended A$AP Rocky. Tacopina, however, decided not to take Diddy’s case due to his close ties with JAY-Z and Roc Nation, expressing a familial connection with them.
Tacopina has openly addressed his decision, stating, “I represent Roc Nation; a lot of people in Roc I’m very close with. Jay and [Roc Nation president] Desiree Perez are really special, special people.” Besides, he doubts the closeness of JAY-Z and Diddy, despite their public images.
As Diddy gears up for trial, the new dynamic in his defense team, led by the capable Steel, may shift the trial’s momentum. The spotlight is on whether this legal lineup will bridge the gap between allegations and vindication.
Only time will tell if Diddy’s courtroom strategies will sway the jury in his favor.
