The mystery surrounding 2Pac’s murder in 1996 has taken another twist as Duane “Keefe D” Davis, arrested for the crime in 2023, has pointed fingers elsewhere.
In a recent interview with ABC News, Keefe D vehemently denied his involvement in 2Pac’s untimely death. He claimed, “I did not do it,” and dismissed the evidence against him, saying prosecutors lack any concrete proof linking him to the crime scene. They don’t have nothing. And they know they don’t have nothing. They can’t even place me out here.” He insisted he was in Los Angeles when the tragedy occurred in Las Vegas, with many people ready to confirm his alibi.
Keefe D turned the spotlight onto Reggie Wright Jr., a former Compton police officer and key security staff at Death Row Records. He alleged that Wright Jr. orchestrated the murder, labeling him and his team as ‘mercenaries.’ This accusation comes even after Wright Jr. had previously testified in the grand jury that indicted Keefe D. Wright Jr. has refuted these claims, expressing his dismay at being repeatedly mentioned in connection with the case.
The controversy deepens as Keefe D addresses his past confessions to law enforcement, including his admissions to the LAPD and the Las Vegas Metro Police between 2008 and 2023. Keefe D now argues these admissions were under duress, claiming he only confessed to shield himself and others from drug charges. In his words, “That’s the only way you’re walking free. It would’ve been selfish to let everybody go down because of me.”
However, many are skeptical of his changed narrative, considering that he admitted to involvement multiple times on platforms like BET, YouTube, and even in his 2019 memoir. Keefe D counteracts these admissions by arguing that he was ‘paid’ to make such statements.
Adding to the drama, Keefe D criticized the Las Vegas police for allegedly voiding an immunity deal that he claims was initially promised. A judge, however, ruled this deal as non-binding, placing more pressure on Keefe D as he faces trial set for February 9, 2026.
As the trial date approaches, all eyes are on Keefe D and his version of events. His claims have undoubtedly stirred the pot, but the truth remains as elusive as it was nearly three decades ago.
