Guess what? Pharrell Williams just got a major shout out from France! On July 13, 2025, he was given the title of Knight of the Legion of Honor – pretty big deal, huh? They gave him the honor for his work in music, fashion, and design.
This award, which was first created by Napoleon Bonaparte way back in 1802, is given to folks who’ve made some seriously awesome contributions to the country. Doesn’t matter if you’re French or not, as long as you’ve done something amazing for France, you’re in.
They announced Pharrell’s award the day before Bastille Day – a big party day in France where they celebrate freedom and revolution.
Pharrell’s not just some random choice for this honor though. He’s been the Men’s Creative Director at Louis Vuitton since 2023 and has a deep connection to French culture. His work with French institutions stretches over two decades, dipping into fashion, fragrance, music, and even fine dining.
He first hooked up with Louis Vuitton in 2005 to design the Millionaire sunglasses. Since then, he’s climbed up the ladder and is now the big cheese in the menswear department. Plus, his music ties to France are crazy deep, especially with his hit collab with Daft Punk on “Get Lucky.”
Recently, he produced and executive produced a killer album called Let God Sort Em Out by Clipse. It was mostly recorded at Louis Vuitton’s Paris HQ and dropped on July 11, getting rave reviews.
The Legion of Honor is usually handed out by the President of France, often based on suggestions from government bigwigs. It’s one of the top recognitions in the country and is saved for those who’ve really made a mark on French society or helped boost its global image.
