  • Controversies and release strategies may have hurt sales, with forecasts suggesting it could have sold 21k units under better circumstances.
  • The album saw changes, including the removal of ‘Eazy’ and addition of ‘Mr Miyagi’ featuring Playboi Carti.
  • Kanye’s future plans include releasing the long-anticipated album ‘Yandhi.’

Kanye West has hit a snag with his latest album, ‘DONDA 2,’ which suffered the lowest first-week sales of his career. The album dropped on April 29 and was released on streaming platforms for the first time. Despite it being a Kanye project, it moved only 5.9k units.

Given West’s past controversies, many fans seem to have turned their backs on him, impacting sales numbers. If ‘DONDA 2’ had released the previous Friday, it might have reached around 21k units, which is still far less than Kanye’s previous works.

Initially available only on his Stem Player in February 2022, the album saw some changes over time. For instance, the track ‘Eazy’ with The Game has been cut, making way for ‘Mr Miyagi,’ featuring Future and Playboi Carti, giving fans something new to enjoy.

Other artists contributing to ‘DONDA 2’ are Travis Scott, Jack Harlow, XXXTENTACION, Baby Keem, and Alicia Keys. However, despite these big names, the album’s reach did not meet expectations.

On a more creative note, Kanye kept the original artwork from the Stem Player release, a bold image of his childhood home ablaze, which still resonates with fans.

Speaking of unreleased tracks, Kanye has plans to drop ‘Yandhi,’ a project that has been hanging in the balance since 2018. “We gotta release Yandhi,” he stated during a livestream from Spain. This long-awaited album might reignite interest in his music.

Kanye West’s ‘DONDA 2’ might not have hit the mark, but his fans remain eager to see what’s next.
