Nelly stirred the pot with his bold claim about the long-rumored Verzuz battle.

  • He believes Diddy would have been outmatched by JD.
  • Nelly praised JD’s vast and versatile talent.
  • Diddy’s reluctance to battle outside NYC raised eyebrows.
  • The proposed showdown fizzled out, leaving fans disappointed.

Nelly’s recent commentary on the proposed Verzuz battle between Diddy and Jermaine Dupri added fuel to the fire. The St. Louis rapper was clear on his stance, asserting, “Puff was gon’ get murdered. Easy! Easy!” His confident claim placed JD as the likely champion.

Nelly didn’t hold back in recognizing JD’s talents, pointing out that Dupri’s skills extend from songwriting to production. JD’s ability to create hits from scratch was highlighted as a reason for his supposed advantage, making his prowess stand out in the music scene.

A key part of the conversation touched on location. Nelly noted, Puff is smart. He didn’t want no part of a battle outside New York, suggesting Diddy’s reluctance to face JD on neutral ground might reflect his doubts.

The idea of the battle initially heated up in August 2022 when Diddy took to Instagram Live. He openly challenged JD, saying he could “get that smoke anytime.” JD responded by inviting Diddy to Atlanta, preferring a friendly showcase of their label’s greatest hits.

Despite their playful banter, the event never came to fruition. Although there was buzz about a potential matchup at Madison Square Garden in fall 2023, the event never received official confirmation and eventually fell through.

Diddy’s remarks about coming together and performing “hit for hit” with JD in Atlanta were met with enthusiasm. However, as of now, the legendary face-off remains a what-if scenario.

The dramatic Verzuz battle that fans hoped for still lingers as an unfulfilled musical dream.
