- J. Cole’s latest song “Clouds” features some bold lyrics about surpassing others, prompting reactions from fellow artists.
- Following the release, Gibbs shared a yawn emoji on social media, seemingly unimpressed with Cole’s track.
- Gibbs’ social media activity has led fans to speculate about a possible beef with J. Cole.
- Despite past admiration for Cole, Gibbs has recently shared grievances with other artists as well.
J. Cole’s new track “Clouds” dropped online and immediately caught attention. In it, Cole boasts about venturing into uncharted territories and outdoing his peers. This did not sit well with some, including Freddie Gibbs.
Gibbs responded by posting a yawn emoji on X, formerly Twitter, and continued to express his thoughts on Instagram. He seemed to mock rappers who talk about ending careers in their lyrics, but then avoid actual confrontations.
Fans quickly speculated that Gibbs was referring to J. Cole, particularly about a past beef Cole supposedly backed out of with Kendrick Lamar. The online chatter intensified as Gibbs’ cryptic messages suggested he was talking about Cole.
Interestingly, Gibbs has previously shown respect for Cole. Back in 2020, he praised Cole’s collaboration with PUMA, enjoying the basketball sneakers in an enthusiastic video.
However, Gibbs’ playful admiration has turned critical in recent times. Recently, he accused Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR of copying his style. He noted the similarities between their album title ‘$ome $exy $ongs 4 U’ and his own ‘$oul $old $eparately’, both shortened to ‘$$$’.
Gibbs pointed out that even the cartoon bunnies gracing the back of Drake and PND’s album were a nod to his own ‘Big Rabbit’ mascot.
Gibbs leveraged the situation to draw attention back to his own work. He shared a humorous ‘Greatest Hits Collection’ video where he played up the parallels between the albums.
Freddie Gibbs seems to be stirring the pot, keeping the conversation around hip-hop buzzing.
