The much-anticipated trailer for ‘Freaky Tales,’ narrated by renowned rapper Too $hort, has finally dropped, promising to bring a vibrant slice of Oakland’s 1987 scene to the big screen.

Inspired by Too $hort’s 1987 hit, the action-comedy film ‘Freaky Tales’ weaves together four intriguing stories set in Oakland. The film boasts a star-studded ensemble, including Pedro Pascal, Normani, Jay Ellis, and the legendary Tom Hanks.

The movie’s plot unfolds like a ‘multi-track mixtape,’ featuring a variety of colorful characters. Viewers will encounter an NBA star, a corrupt cop, a female rap duo, teen punks, neo-Nazis, and a debt collector, all hurtling towards explosive encounters.

Premiered at Sundance in 2024, this MACRO-produced film offers a chaotic whirlwind of narratives, each more outlandish than the last. The film is set to hit theaters on April 4, providing a tantalizing escape into the past.

Yet, amid the excitement of the movie’s release, Too $hort faces personal tragedy. His brother, Wayne Shaw, was fatally shot during a robbery attempt in Oakland. Shaw, aged 61, confronted the robbers attempting to break into a dispensary, where he was tragically killed.

Following the tragedy, Too $hort expressed his grief on social media, posting heartfelt messages and videos filled with raw emotion. ‘Real tears,’ he wrote, and shared his struggle to respond to messages during this challenging time.

Fans and fellow artists flooded Too $hort’s Instagram with support, including kind words from celebrities like Mike Epps and DJ Premier. Meanwhile, Oakland police continue to investigate the incident and Shaw’s involvement in the marijuana business at the location.

Authorities are urging anyone with information or footage of the incident to come forward. They have set up a Homicide Section tip line for those with potential leads.

The ‘Freaky Tales’ film promises to be a thrilling spectacle of drama and excitement, offering a vivid portrayal of ’80s Oakland. As audiences eagerly await its release, Too $hort’s personal loss casts a poignant shadow over the movie’s debut.
