In a twist that sounds straight out of a rap melodrama, the iconic rapper Cam’ron found himself in the midst of a controversy over a classic tune. The track in question, “Horse & Carriage,” has been the center of a claim by Cuban Link, a member of the legendary Terror Squad, who alleges it was pilfered from him.
According to Cuban Link, the hook of the song was lifted during an encounter where he had played it for Ma$e. The hook, inspired by Eddie Murphy’s stand-up routine, was destined for Cuban Link’s own single. However, the final product featured Ma$e, Cam’ron, and Big Pun, complete with a similar hook.
Cam’ron didn’t shy away from the allegations. On his YouTube show, Talk With Flee, he addressed the issue head-on. He admitted, “I have no idea what Cuban Link is talking about as far as Ma$e overhearing his hook and Ma$e stealing the hook.” But in a surprising twist, he hinted that Cuban Link “may have a case.”
The Harlem rapper explained that Lance ‘Un’ Rivera might have been the one responsible for the hook’s widespread use, suggesting that if Cuban Link had performed it in front of Rivera, he could indeed have grounds for his claim. Rivera, who directed the “Horse & Carriage” video, had a significant role in Cam’ron’s early success, signing him to his first deal with Untertainment Records.
However, this wasn’t the only drama Cam’ron shared in that episode. In an unexpected revelation, he recounted a chaotic encounter with comedian Katt Williams during a Philadelphia stand-up show. The night, initially buoyant with goodwill and generous gifts, turned turbulent when Williams accused another member of the Dipset crew, anonymously referred to as ‘Dipset X,’ of an unintentional faux pas.
Katt’s reaction? An impromptu investigation into the matter that ended with a punch directed at Dipset X. The room, which had moments ago revelled in camaraderie, erupted into chaos. Cam’ron’s instincts kicked in, and what followed was a brief scuffle with the comedian, leaving a memorable mark on both their histories.
Despite the melee, Cam’ron reflected on the incident with a hint of regret. “Off instinct, I grab Katt, flip him upside down and slam him,” he shared candidly, “and then as I’m about to kick him, I snap out of it.” He noted how this confrontation signaled the end of their interactions.
These revelations not only highlight the multifaceted nature of his relationships and past conflicts but also add an unexpected layer of intrigue to the narrative surrounding his career.
In the world of hip-hop, where stories blend with the beats, Cam’ron’s anecdotes remind us of the ever-present drama that swirls around fame. Whether the song theft claim holds any truth remains uncertain, but one thing is clear: Cam’ron’s tales are as vibrant as his music.
