So, Jeannie Mai really got real about her rough divorce from Jeezy. She didn’t shy away from sharing how much it hurt when they split. She opened up about all the nitty-gritty details on a recent podcast.
“Divorce is experiencing death alive,” she said on the Question Everything Podcast. The 45-year-old was really upfront about how crushing the end of her marriage was.
“Divorce is heartbreaking, no matter what. It’s one of the greatest pains that any human has to endure. You never wish to corrupt something that’s so planned and intentioned to be forever, right?” she added.
The former The Real co-host gave us some insight into why she felt this way.
“There’s no way to understand that feeling of space shared with somebody and all of a sudden it closing in,” Mai said. She spoke about grappling with her own thoughts and choices during the whole process.
But what really rocked the boat was the ugly custody fight that came after their breakup. Jeezy asked for a divorce in September 2023 after just two years of being hitched.
The ex-couple have a four-year-old daughter, Monaco. Things got ugly real quick with serious accusations being thrown from both sides. Mai pointed a finger at Jeezy for not being careful with guns around their toddler.
Court papers say Monaco found one of Jeezy’s big guns in their house. Jeezy hit back by asking for full custody of Monaco. He said Mai was a “no-show mom” who left their daughter with her family while she was busy working on TV shows. People in the know say that the rapper thought Mai’s busy schedule kept her from taking good care of Monaco.
Mai also claimed in court that Jeezy was physically abusive during their marriage. She said Jeezy pushed her down stairs and lost his temper easily. The TV star said she was scared for her safety and their daughter’s.
Jeezy said all the abuse claims were false through his lawyers. He said the claims were a ploy to damage his reputation. Jeezy insisted he was a good dad who only wanted the best for Monaco.
Despite all the drama and pain, Mai isn’t swearing off love for good.
“I would get married again,” she said during the podcast’s bombshell interview. “I really don’t want to ever put a block on myself,” Mai said about her future love life. She also spoke about figuring out what healthy love should feel like for her.
“That first starts with me,” she said about setting her relationship standards. She stressed that she needs to work on herself before finding a new partner.
Both Jeezy and Mai agreed to share custody of Monaco with set visitation times. The settlement included money matters and dividing their stuff. Jeezy has moved on with his music and being a co-parent.
He said he’s at peace and loving his freedom after the divorce. Jeezy said his daughter is his top priority despite the rough breakup.
