Snoop Dogg is bringing a soulful twist to his discography with the upcoming gospel album, Altar Call, dedicated to his beloved mother, Beverly Tate. The album is set to release on April 27, promising a blend of gospel, Hip Hop, and R&B sounds.

In a heartfelt Instagram video, Snoop described the album’s creation as ‘another chapter out of the Bible of Love.’ He hopes to use his platform to spread love and healing, inspired by his late mother’s teachings.

The album cover features Snoop’s mom, highlighting her influence on the project. The lead single, dropping April 18, sets the stage for the full album release.

Featuring 21 tracks, Altar Call includes collaborations with artists like Jamie Foxx, Robert Glasper, and Jazze Pha, making it a star-studded tribute.

While this isn’t Snoop’s first gospel endeavor—his 2018 album Bible of Love garnered mixed reviews—he remains committed to a spirit-driven approach.

Snoop emphasized this in an interview with TV One, stating, ‘This is not a money-driven project, it’s a spirit-driven project. I’ve referred to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on most of my recordings.’

Previously, Snoop has explored various genres, including reggae, with the album Reincarnated under the name Snoop Lion, showcasing his musical versatility.

The album’s revelation coincides with some industry controversy, as Snoop’s ownership of Death Row Records has been questioned by its co-founder, Suge Knight.

Knight critiqued Snoop’s recent moves, accusing him of misguided attempts to revive Death Row’s legacy. However, Snoop seems determined to carve his own path, regardless of the criticism.

Snoop Dogg’s gospel venture is a heartfelt journey honoring his mother’s legacy through music.
