Kendrick Lamars Not Like Us Surges with HBCU Band Performances

Kendrick Lamar’s track, ‘Not Like Us,’ is making waves not just on streaming platforms but also in the vibrant world of HBCU marching bands.

In a captivating video shared by a fan account on X, Florida A&M University’s famed Marching 100 electrified the crowd with their rendition of the song during halftime at their matchup against Norfolk State University. The band’s unique touch, including the distinctive ‘O-V-Hoe’ call-out, led to an unforgettable performance.

Similarly, Alcorn State University’s Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite & Golden Girls also performed ‘Not Like Us,’ previewing their show for the upcoming year. The fan account buzzed with excitement, sharing clips and highlighting the band’s energy and precision.

While these performances were taking social media by storm, Kendrick was celebrating another triumph. His track ‘Not Like Us’ surpassed 700 million streams on Spotify, becoming the fastest rap song to reach this milestone, dethroning Drake’s ‘God’s Plan.’

Not one to stay silent, Drake soon responded in his own fashion. He dropped three surprise tracks on his burner Instagram account, featuring collaborations and veiled jabs aimed at Kendrick. Songs like ‘No Face,’ ‘SOD,’ and ‘Circadian Rhythm’ stirred fans and reignited the longstanding rivalry between the two rap titans.

Drake’s lyrics in ‘No Face’ and ‘Circadian Rhythm’ seemed to challenge Kendrick’s recent accomplishments, questioning the foundations of Lamar’s success. Despite these taunts, Kendrick’s achievements with ‘Not Like Us’ remain impressive within the industry and among his fans.

Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us’ stands tall with its dual success on both digital platforms and live performances, underscoring his impact in the music scene and beyond.
