We’ve all been tasked with typing up a report for work or working on an important e-mail at some point in our lives. By the same token, we’ve all discovered that one way or another, listening to music can make even the most mundane daily jobs seem that much more bearable.

This then obviously begs the question, can listening to music really boost your performance? Due to the fact that there have been very few scientific studies on the subject, the results are generally fairly inconclusive but, anecdotally, it does seem that there’s something to be said for listening to certain types of music in the background depending on what you’re trying to get done.

With that being said, below is a brief guide to making listening to music a more enjoyable experience for you, while hopefully helping you get on with the task at hand.

Music and Work – Increasing Your Productivity

According to data from The Sound of Productivity Report, around 79% of people would benefit from being able to listen to music at work, although the report also adds that despite the findings, just over a third of workers are actually prohibited from doing so.

If a person feels stimulated or “aroused” by the work that they’re undertaking, then it’s likely that output will increase. Of course, there is no “one-size-fits-all” approach when it comes to listening to music in an attempt to boost productivity and the type of music required will depend on the personality type of the individual.

Research from the above report, for example, found that those working in open spaces are far more likely to benefit from listening to music while working as opposed to those working on their own – this is just one example of how music can drown out or even replace background noise to provide a more suitable soundtrack for the individual.

Using Music to Boost Your Confidence

This one is a little more straightforward and mostly boils down to preference and the type of music you personally enjoy listening to. It follows that the more relaxed you are, the better decisions you make and if these decisions produce tangible results, your confidence will undoubtedly increase as a result.

When it comes to scenarios where you’re forced to think on your feet, such as job interviews or in an online gambling setting, there are numerous articles which recommend confidence boosting Spotify playlists.

However, whether you’re trying to land your dream job or you’re at Super Casino’s online blackjack lobby trying to defeat the dealer on your way to the magical 21, it’s imperative that you compile a playlist which is unique to you only. After all, you’re the only one who knows what kind of music relaxes you.

Leisure Activities or Simply Chilling Out

Remember those recommended playlists floating around the internet or already prepared by someone else on your Spotify? Well, this is where they come in handy. It’s all about the tempo of the music here and matching it with the activity that you’re taking part in.

There are plenty of high-quality chill-out playlists on YouTube if that’s your thing and, similarly, there are a number of high tempo gym workout lists which will get your blood pumping in places you didn’t even know existed.

Instrumental music is highly underrated too, as lyrics in a song activate your brain’s language center, which can interfere with any other kind of task that you’re working on.

It’s All Down to You

At the end of the day, different things work for different people. If you’re serious about using music as an aid or tool of some sort, then it’ll take a bit of trial and error before you finally settle on a playlist of group of songs you like.

Rest assured, though, once you’ve got your lists compiled, you’ll definitely feel the benefit and reap the rewards. Good luck.
