After an incredible run last when he dropped two very dope projects – The Luca Brasi Story and Stranger Than Fiction – and showed the rap game why he was one of the best rappers of 2013, Kevin Gates is finally getting the recognition he deserves.

XXL have announced their 2014 XXL Freshmen and the Baton Rouge rapper is included along with other up-and-coming artists: Chance The Rapper, Rich Homie Quan, Isaiah Rashad, Ty Dolla $ign, Lil Durk, Troy Ave, Vic Mensa, Lil Bibby, Jon Connor, Jarren Benton and August Alsina.

Past XXL Freshmen include now hip-hop big names like Lupe Fiasco, Lil Boosie, Kid Cud Cudi, J. Cole, Big Sean, Kendrick Lamar, Meek Mill, French Montana, Schoolboy Q and more.
