nas-grammy

Hip-hop heads, did you know that in his 20 plus years career and despite being nominated numerous times Nas has never won a Grammy Award?

With Illmatic dropping in 1994 and his latest project, Life Is Good, dropping in 2012, Nas has been releasing albums for nearly 20 years but not one of them have won a Grammy.

Nas received his first Grammy nomination in 1997 for Best Rap Solo Performance for his hit single “If I Ruled the World (Imagine That). Since then, he’s gotten plenty more nominations, including:

  • Best Rap Album for I Am… (2000)
  • Best Short-Form Music Video for “One Mic” (2003)
  • Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for ”The Essence” (2003)
  • Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for “Better Than I Ever Been” (2008)
  • Best Rap Album for Hip-Hop Is Dead (2008)
  • Best Rap Album for Untitled (2009)
  • Best Rap Solo Performance for “N.I.G.G.E.R. (The Slave and the Master)” (2009)
  • Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for “Too Many Rappers” (2010)
  • Best Rap Album for Life Is Good (2013)
  • Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for “Cherry Wine” (2013)
  • Best Rap Song for “Daughters” (2013)
  • Best Rap Performance for “Daughters” (2013)

That’s a total of 13 nominations and zero wins. Compare this to someone like Jay-Z who has had 59 nominations and 19 wins.

As seen by the recent Kendrick-Macklemore debacle, it’s pretty clear that the Grammy committee don’t know that they’re talking about. Nas has his fans and the hip-hop community know – he’s one of the greatest rappers of all time.
