Hip-hop heads, did you know that Lil Wayne’s 2008 album Tha Carter III was his first Billboard number one album?

Even though the Young Money head honcho had been grinding in the rap game since the ’90s, dropping his first solo album, Tha Block Is Hot, in 1999, it wasn’t until his sixth album where he really broke through and became the superstar artist he is today.

Thanks to its monster lead single “Lollipop,” which also became Wayne’s first number one single, and the street smash “A Milli,” Tha Carter III managed to move a crazy 1,005,545 copies in its first week, making it the third highest first week album sales for a rapper in history, just behind 50 Cent’s The Massacre and Eminem’s The Marshall Mathers LP.

Tha Carter III eventually hit triple platinum status and remains Lil Wayne’s best selling album to date. Since then, Wayne’s dropped two more number one albums I Am Not a Human Being and Tha Carter IV.
