The incident, as recounted on the In My Lifetime, Vol. 1 track, “You Must Love Me,” stemmed from Jay-Z’s brother being addicted to crack and stealing his younger brother’s ring. Fortunately, his brother survived the shooting and did not press charges against Jay-Z.
