Hip-hop heads, did you know that 2Pac’s 1995 hit “California Love” was his first number one single?

As Pac’s comeback single since being released from prison and his first record under the Death Row flag, the celebratory “California Love” was produced by Dr. Dre who also featured on the track.

When released in December 1995, “California Love” was a worldwide smash hit, topping the Billboard Hot 100 as well as music charts in Italy, New Zealand and Sweden.

The song also earned Pac a posthumous nomination for Best Rap Solo Performance and Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group (with Dr. Dre and Roger Troutman) at the 39th Grammy Awards.

Amazingly, the single’s B-side “How Do U Want It” featuring K-Ci & JoJo also managed to hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

Off the strength of these two singles, Pac’s fifth studio album All Eyez on Me moved 566,000 copies in its first week and has since been certified diamond after selling more than 10 million copies, making it one of the best selling rap albums of all time.
